Theatre  Three  Dramatic  Academy  Summer  2021

Theatre Three strives to offer the best educational acting experience. Our experienced teachers help participants explore their creativity, expand their skills, and experience live theatre in new ways, all while having fun. We believe any student should have a chance to be onstage. We create a safe space for all students to try new things.

FOR EVERYONE'S SAFETY

Face coverings must be worn by all students and staff at all times. Theatre Three will follow all recommended CDC and New York State guidelines. A full explanation of protocols will be provided to each family prior to the first day of each session.
Class time arrivals and departures are staggered to allow for wellness check-ins and temperature checks.

Workshops are limited to 20 students and meet twice a week for for a total of 10 classes.
Classes begin Tuesday July 6th or Wednesday 7th.

COLLABORATIVE PLAYWRITING WORKSHOP

For both aspiring writers and performers. Students will be guided through acting and writing exercises, with the goal of creating a short play based on work developed in class. Exploration of styles and structures will be integrated in this hands-on experience. Some outside work is required.

SUZIE DUNN (Dean of Dramatic Academy) Teaching career began at THEATRE THREE at age eighteen, teaching classes ages 6 through 17. BFA in Theatre; MA in Elementary Education. Seven years a teacher of dance and drama Oakland Garden Elementary School, New York City; Arts Liaison between schools and The New York City Blueprint for The Arts, working with teaching artists from across the world. Assisted in writing the Arts Standards for New York State. Proud co-founder of The Cue Theatre, an educational lab theatre that works with hundreds of students throughout the Capital region. She is the author of a curriculum for Arts- in-Education “Cue the Classroom”, launched in 2014. She appeared on Central Park's Delacorte stage in The Public Theatre’s TWELFTH NIGHT (summer 2016 and 2018); AS YOU LIKE IT (summer 2017) and HERCULES (summer 2019). She has been seen in several productions of THEATRE THREE'S A CHRISTMAS CAROL. Most recently, she appeared in MAMA'S BIRTHDAY, part of THEATRE THREE'S OFF-STAGE/ON-LINE series.

HEATHER ROSE KUHN (Teaching Assistant, Creative Dramatics/Pre-Teen I & II). THEATRE THREE credits include Off-Stage/On-Line series: CAKE (Lexi); JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAM COAT (Ensemble); JEKYLL AND HYDE (Ensemble); THE WIZARD OF OZ (Ensemble); A CHRISTMAS CAROL (Belinda, Fan); THE ADDAMS FAMILY (The Puritan); ALICE'S MOST DECIDEDLY UNUSUAL ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND (White Rabbit). Provides program caricature design and artwork as Resident Artist for THEATRE THREE'S Children's Theatre productions. Favorite credits include SPAMALOT (Patsy) and WHEN WE WERE YOUNG AND UNAFRAID (Penny).

ALYSSA MONTES (Instructor, Creative Dramatics/Pre-Teen I & II) Bachelor's Degree in Child Study (elementary general/special education) with a concentration in Music. Working towards a master's degree in Adolescence Special Education. Performer/Public Relations Manager at Magical Aura Entertainment and assistant director/stage manager at Shoreham-Wading River's Summer Music Institute since 2011. Past theatre credits include: WEST SIDE STORY (Maria); PLAY ON! (Smitty); ANYTHING GOES (Chastity); ALMOST, MAINE (Glory); RUMORS (Claire); 7 WAYS TO SAY I LOVE YOU (Director); etc. Past THEATRE THREE credits include JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT (Angel/Ensemble).

JEFFREY SANZEL (Instructor, Collaborative Playwriting/Executive Artistic Director) BFA in Acting & Directing from Conservatory at SUNY Purchase. With THEATRE THREE since 1989. Appointed Artistic Director July 1993. Director of over two hundred productions including the 2015 Musical Theatre Factory II’s production of GODSPELL, JR. As a playwright, his works have included WHERE THERE'$ A WILL; 1968: ROCK THE WORLD; FROM THE FIRES: VOICES OF THE HOLOCAUST; FAIR ENOUGH; and many children's theatre and educational productions. In addition to directing and playing Scrooge, he has provided THEATRE THREE's adaptation of A CHRISTMAS CAROL for the past three decades. Currently, he is a Consulting Artist for New York City's 92Y Musical Theatre for Young Audiences program.

MELISSA TROXLER (Site Safety Monitor) has been THEATRE THREE's Resident Stage Manager since the fall of 2017, having stage managed JOSEPH …, JEKYLL & HYDE, THE WIZARD OF OZ, THE MIRACLE WORKER, NINE, THE ADDAMS FAMILY, CURTAINS, TWELVE ANGRY MEN, NUNSENSE, A CHRISTMAS CAROL, and THE BRIDGES OF MADISON COUNTY. She is also the co-producer and production supervisor of THEATRE THREE’s OFF-STAGE/ON-LINE series. Previous stage
management credits include Airmid Theatre Co, Berkshire Theatre Group, Theatre Workshop of Nantucket, Lost Nation Theatre, Boston Conservatory at Berklee, and Busch Gardens, Williamsburg.

STEVEN UIHLEIN (Instructor, Teen/Advanced Teen) Associate in Science Degree in Theatre Performance and Technical Theatre. Two seasons as a THEATRE THREE Company Member. Centereach High School Drama Program Technical Director since 2013. With THEATRE THREE from 2014 as actor as well as fight choreographer, running crew, and lighting designer for Children's Theatre and special events. Past THEATRE THREE credits include JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT (Simeon); JEKYLL & HYDE (Simon Stride); 22nd ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF ONE-ACT PLAYS (world premieres of “Family By Numbers,” “The Making of Medea's Medea”); SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER: THE MUSICAL (Double-J); 20th ANNUAL FESTIVAL OF ONE-ACT PLAYS (world premieres of “Lower Education,” “Upset Over Nothing,” “When Driven”); A CHRISTMAS CAROL (Marley 2016, First Seeker/Old Joe 2015/2017, Fred 2018-2019); SHREK THE MUSICAL (Big Bad Wolf); BEAU JEST (Chris); GODSPELL (“Light of The World”). COVID-19 Health and Safety Protocols for All Performances:

Face Coverings Required
Face coverings must cover the mouth and nose and are required for staff and patrons at all times.


Wellness Checks
All staff, volunteers, and patrons will have temperature checks and be screened with a health questionnaire upon entering the building.


Fully Vaccinated Staff
All staff, including our volunteers, are fully vaccinated. Additionally, box office staff, ushers, and house managers are gloved.


Social Distancing
From ticket purchase to exiting the facility, all aspects of our patrons' visit are designed to maintain social distancing. Ticketholders will be seated upon arrival to prevent crowding in the lobby.


Sanitizing Stations
Hand sanitizing stations are located throughout the building
 


Air Handling Systems
Theatre Three's ventilation system has been upgraded with the highest-rated filters and fresh air circulation for all systems.


Enhanced Cleaning
Theatre Three has implemented enhanced cleaning protocols as well as increasing the frequency of our deep cleanings.

Theatre Three consults both the NY Department of Health and CDC websites to track the latest health and safety updates.
